The GB driver’s licence

Before I carry on typing another word of this post, let me warn you that this would be full of negativism, discouragement and frustration.

So beware!!!

This is me sourgraping about the fact that I failed – YET AGAIN – my practical driving test. I can’t even remember how many times I’ve already tried. All I know is that I’ve already spent an enormous amount of time and not to mention money on driving lessons!

Yeah, yeah……I may not be doing the thing right on the test day itself. I do get nervous and it does contribute to me committing errors like stalling the engine, fumble on the gear stick, etc. But the DSA examiners will not give you room for those. They think that after 30 hours of driving lessons and you’ve got everything in control and you’re cool on the day of the test itself.

So, what am I doing wrong? Or at least, what have I done wrong this time? The examiner told me that I was approaching junctions too fast. Right, I did. But how fast is fast? 5 mph? 10 mph? On a Give Way junction, am I expected to do a full stop when I know that there are no one else around? See, if I did that, they would give me a minor for hesitation! Do I rely on my judgment when crossing a junction and just carry on after checking that there are no other vehicles about? See, I did that today at 3 junctions and I was marked down for approaching junctions too fast.

Oh, and I got a minor during moving off. Why? Because the examiner made me stop in between 2 parked vehicles, in front of a driveway with a van’s nose sticking out the curb. Had to carefully squeeze the car in and stopped maybe too close to the car in front because I was avoiding the van’s nose. So, when I had to move off, the examiner even said “If you need to reverse back so you could safely move off, please do so.” And I got a minor for that!

The frustrating part of it all is that after they have dumped your spirits by failing you, you and your driving instructors drive off from the test centre and just to screech to a halt because there was this idiotic young driver who was revving up his beaten-up car while driving at 50 mph on a 30 mph limit road! I scream….“How come he is allowed to drive?!?!?” And the answer that I got was…“Because he did everything right when he took his test.”

Why are they making it so difficult for new drivers to be allowed to drive? Yet they are not keeping close watch to those who have done it PERFECT during their driving test but now is a big menace on the roads. If you take everyone’s licences right now and make them re-take the test, I’m sure we would be able to solve all traffic congestion in all of Britain as there would only be few left who are allowed to drive.

So, what do I do now? Do I give up? Do I carry on?

You know what, I don’t know just yet….
