I have around 49 minutes left in the day (well, at least in my time zone) to celebrate my 1st anniversary on my current job. Yes, I managed to complete an entire year already and it now seems like yesterday.
There were no balloons nor any festivities to mark the occasion…not even a drink at our “local” pub, the Stone Horse (this is where me and my workmates usually go). In fact, I skipped lunch completely since I was in a meeting with my boss and our company’s new marketing director until about quarter to one and I had to finish documents before I had to host and chair this meeting over WebEx with a possible partner in the US along with our Boston office. That meeting lasted until 4:30pm. Then, I had to run to our TSM and COO to request an installation of SonicMQ Broker on my laptop as I would need it for yet another meeting with some colleagues from our Surbiton office for final test integration of our products.
Whew! What a day it was, actually, it had been really hectic since Monday.
Monday, I had to complete the RFQ response for our bid to City of Atlanta and send it over to our Boston office for printing, binding and dispatching. Then, Tuesday, me and my boss were over at Coventry to meet with another possible partner on their bid for the Lorry Charging Scheme.
So, how am I finding my employ so far?
FANTASTIC!
My employers, especially my boss, really appreciate the work that I am doing. Today, our new Marketing Director gave great feedback on the work I have done on the marketing of our product. Everyone is showing and expressing their gratitude and appreciation over my efforts, which was something that I missed in my last one.
As far as the work goes, there is so much to do and the challenge still excites and motivates me. I am one of those (possibly rare and strange) people who really do love what they are doing and the environs that it moves in. You have the occasional frustrations but they are all part and package. Otherwise, being in a perfect environment would be far too boring!
My workmates are fab! I don’t get to interact with most of them all day as I work in a different area in our building as the rest but once in a while, like every Fridays, they do knock on my office door and let me know that we are going to the pub. I have already gone out with them on weekends for a drink or two and of course, there was S’s hen party where we dressed up as nurses. Yep, Ann Summers nurses! A group of blokes in another car almost had an accident when they saw us 4!
The year went by so fast that I hardly noticed it. But I know that at this point, they know what I am capable of doing. They know that when they give me the work, I could do it and do it well. I know I still have a lot to learn and I look forward to continuously improve myself. So, here’s to more years!
