News

I got news from home today…there had been an earthquake that hit Luzon, one of the main islands of the Philippines. Karen informed me and pointed me to this news article in the Philippine Inquirer.

A strong earthquake struck Luzon at 10:36 p.m. Friday, measuring magnitude 6.2 on the Richter scale.

The epicenter was located 67 kilometers southwest of Tagaytay City, government seismologist Leonila Bautista said in a radio interview.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said in a statement it was of tectonic origin and originated from a depth of 94 km. It was caused by the movement of the so-called Manila trench.

Intensity 5 was felt in Los Baños, Laguna province; Tagaytay City in Cavite province, San Fernando, Pampanga province; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro province; Malolos, Bulacan province.

Intensity 4 was reported in Manila and Lucban, Quezon province (not intensity 5 as earlier reported) and intensity 3 in Quezon City and Clark Airbase, Bautista added in an interview with GMA Network radio dzBB.

I have yet to hear from my mum to confirm that she is okay.
