Strange and a bit scary

At the start of November, Vodafone rang me and urged me to come back to their network. See, I was a customer of theirs before through this provider called Singlepoint. I was so frustrated and dissatisfied with Singlepoint so I decided to transfer my number to Orange.

When Vodafone called me, they assured me that they are not signing me up to Singlepoint again but with them directly. Okay, I told the person on the phone, but I needed more convincing than that. So, she offered me this:

  • 200 free minutes, x-net
  • 500 free text messages
  • Free phone – I requested for one that I had my eyes on for the past months, the Siemens S65 (see below)
  • No charges, line rental and call charges, till February 2005

Siemens S65It was the last 2 points that sold me to the offer. Downside to it was I won’t get to keep my number. Oh well, that could be easily arranged. So, I agreed. She told me that the phone will be delivered to my billing address (which is my home address) within 3 days.

Now, the buzzer to get into our building broke. I couldn’t remember, however, when it started not working. The postman or any non-resident could not get in. There was a note for all residents that we could arrange to pick up our mail at the local depot. I then decided to pick up my last Saturday. But before I even got to shower last Saturday, the postman rang my door and I let him in. See, it was only the generic buzzer that was broken, if one rings any of the buzzers for each of the flats, they could be let inside the building. Anyway, postman slipped my mail in the slot. I was hoping that a delivery notice card (from the couriers hired by Vodafone) would be with them, but it wasn’t.

Before I carry on, let me also tell you that I’ve been trying to contact Vodafone to follow-up the delivery of my phone but to no avail. I rang the Customer Service number but no option was there which could relate to my query. I emailed but only got a response today.

So, when I didn’t get anything with my mail last Saturday, I decided to ring the Customer Service number again and was able to get through to live operator. She told me that she could not help me. She gave me the number of phone sales – an 0800 (free) – but they only operated Monday to Friday. :irked:

Monday came and I rang the number. I got through a live operator. I told her that I still do not have my phone. She then investigated and found out that there was confirmation of the delivery. It said that the phone was delivered to my address last 10th of November at 11:36AM, and … someone signed for it! :bigeyes2: How could that be? I was at work!

The operator then told me that they have asked Parceline to fax the page with the signature of the person who received the parcel. I asked for the consignment number and requested the same to be faxed to me.

At this point, I was getting scared. I mean, who could have signed on my behalf? I would freak out if that signature was so close to mine. Someone could be going stalking me!!! :boxedin: But who?

My fears were abated when the fax came in. Signature was nothing like mine. But still, that doesn’t resolve the problem at hand. Vodafone told me to ring the police and file a claim so they could send me a replacement. I asked if there were any calls made on the phone, they said that the SIM was not active and they are now going to bar all calls or texts from my account until it is resolved.

Rang local police. They asked the IMEI number and said that this is necessary to proceed. I did not have that so I rang Vodafone again. They must have information. But not. Since the SIM was not activated, the IMEI of the phone was never registered with my account.

So now, I’m stuck. I’ve got nothing to go with the police. Vodafone then told me that they will ring me back as they will need to sort it out their side first. It has been more than 24 hours already and I still haven’t heard back from them. If they don’t ring me tomorrow, I will ring them. And if they have no resolution for my problem, I’d simply cancel the contract. I shouldn’t be charged for default. Well, I won’t pay that, anyway.

  1. Well, they won’t be able to use the phone. Although the IMEI was not registered with my account, Vodafone would probably have blocked it. Well, they should.

Thing is, I don’t care about what happened anymore. Well, sort of. All I need to know right now is if they are sending me a replacement, because if not, I’d just cancel my contract with them. And I’d just continue on with Orange.

  2. Okay, Vodafone has not updated me yet as to whether they will send me a replacement of the phone. Will deal with it tomorrow to cancel the contract.

Haay, Amie, I shouldn’t have signed up in the first place. Happy naman ako with Orange eh. Oh well, let’s see.
