Be Cool (2005)

I highly recommend this film!

Powerhouse cast – Travolta, Thurman, Vaughn, Keitel, De Vito, The Rock (you will really adore him in this movie, trust me!), Milian, and many more.

The dance segment is back! (sans the bob-fringe hair do and the ‘Batman’ move)

Chav-vy jackets sported by Vince Vaughn.

Soundtrack did not make much impact unlike Pulp Fiction – but isn’t a showstopper.

Still can’t understand how on earth could Steve Tyler had produced a gorgeous babe like LIV! Heheh!

In summary, this one is really SCORCHING!

My rating: * * * *
Buying the DVD? Yes!

How do you say

When someone dies, what do you say to those they left behind?

It has always been difficult for me to express my sympathy to those who have recently lost a loved one. Condolence just feels so impersonal, it feels like you don’t have anything to say…which is probably why it’s so curt – as Karen had put it.

It seems easier to say something if the person who passed away was the one I know. At least, I could say about how I knew him or her and how he or she touched my life, which will surely be missed. But then again, I might be too emotional to even say anything.

A fan in all of us

Liverpool = The Beatles

There isn’t anymore statement truer than that.

Beatle Street It must be difficult to uphold the legacy of possibly the most successful and popular music band in our known history. But Liverpool has been doing well in upholding just that. There is The Beatle’s Story Museum where the entire story of the group is told, from beginning to end, from being The Quarrymen to being (the original!) Fab 5 and to finally up as John, Paul, George and Ringo! Yes, the four lads who shook the world and the raison d’etre of BEATLEMANIA! Then, Mathew Street has practically become a shrine for the band. This is where the CAVERN CLUB was and still is located. The brick wall is full of names of bands who have played there over all these years.

Here are other photos I took:

It’s hard not to be a Beatles fan. Their songs have been remixed and revived over and over again. They have influenced a lot of the bands that have come and gone themselves. Indeed, the world would have been hard to Imagine without them.

But even with all the walking, I still missed Penny Lane…

Pinoy pride

Right, one of the reasons why I am in Liverpool is to see Miss Saigon – the UK tour 2005. I’ve always wanted to see this show and it had been long since the curtains went down in London’s West End, I feel lucky enough that the show’s producers decided to stage a touring ensemble. Watching the show makes me feel really proud being a Pinoy because most of the lead players are Pinoys!

Jun Jun Briones as the Engineer was simply delightful! He played it differently from how Jonathan Pryce originally played it in West End but to my opinion, I think it was more effective. More fitting to the role. I especially loved his rendition of If You Want To Die In Bed.

I cannot remember who played Kim tonight but she was also good. However, there were moments that she was overpowered (her voice, I mean) by the other characters. That scene where she and the Engineer were being beaten for being traitors as per the order of the Thuy, she re-emerged with blood running down her nose. I’m not quite sure if that was part of the production or she was indeed having nose bleeds. It was pretty effective but I hope she wasn’t hurt.

Why do they always cast the Chris character as this typical hunky, gorgeous G.I.? He is quite yummy but it was a bit of a turnoff the way he walks across the stage. May kembot! :shhh:

I cannot NOT mention how Hugh Maynard sang Bui Doi – it was fantastic! It had a touch of gospel singing to it and it really, really moved me.

I would have loved to meet the Pinoy cast (at least) so I hung around the theatre but they took a long time to come out. I wouldn’t want to be out on my own so late since I don’t know if Liverpool is safe during the night. So, I just jumped into a taxi to take me back to the hotel singing silently You are sunlight and I moon. Joined by the gods of fortune. Midnight and high noon. Sharing the sky. We have been blessed, you and I.

Trains and horoscopes

I’m on my way to Liverpool to spend Easter weekend. I am going by myself since all of my friends are already in Copenhagen. Was travelling for work for most of February and March so I didn’t have the time to sort out my Schengen visa.

Anyway, the Virgin train I am taking is fully booked and I was really glad that I reserved my seat. So, I got to my designated coach and found my seat easily. I settled down, got my laptop so I could have a bit of entertainment for the 3 hour trip. Then a few minutes before the train was to pull out from the platform, there was this rather attractive bloke who asked me if the seat beside me was occupied. I gathered that he didn’t reserve his seat. Me, being all so missy follow all rules said that the seat was marked as reserved. Only then that I realised SHIT! I could have just said, “Yeah, take it!” My trip would have turned with a bit more conversation and possibly, excitement. Now, I’m stuck with this little girl who kept on eating and pointing to the non-existent animals outside!

I bought GLAMOUR magazine so I have something to read on the train and this is what I read on the horoscope section for Aries:

YOUR YEAR No major dramas this year (that might sound disappointing), but there’s plenty of opportunity for major transformation if that’s what you want. The ball’s in your court and you fee in control. Discipline comes quite easily, too, especially after July. Mid-March and mid-August are top times for partnership so if you’re single, go man-hunting.

YOUR MONTH From the 21st, when the sun and Venus glide into your sign, you’re rocking. The only potential snag is that communications need discretion; think twice before speaking — never an Aries strong point, but it’s a good time to start. The month ends with the chance for an image change — a new haircut or a whole new you? Your call. Love? The 25th is a big day.

WAAAAHHHH!!!! Today is the 25th and I think I already blew it!

Strange, I am already donning a new hair do but I like that “whole new me” concept. Maybe that is what I should look out for. Oh, who the heck am I kidding? I don’t believe in horoscopes!
