Right… I suppose I have to continue to post about my Dallas experience.
So I missed the spot where JFK was shot so I just went to West End Historic District. How historic? Didn’t get to find out…hee hee hee!
Anyway, my first stop was a little shop called Taxco where they sell silver jewelry with precious stones. The silver came from Mexico and so are some of the precious stones. I got myself something from that shop – a necklace and earring set and another necklace. Here are my loot:
After that, I headed for this ‘mall’ where other novelty shops are. I tried on the Stetson hats and the cowgirl boots! But I couldn’t get one on my foot so I didn’t treat myself to one. Shame because they are so in season! Wear them with a skirt… hee hee…kikay…
All that browsing around only took 3 hours so I still had 2.5 hours to kill before I go to the Energy Plaza building. So I grabbed a mocha coffee and sat for a while, and basked in the Texas sun!
We headed back to the flat to get a breather before we headed out to dinner. That Friday night, we were going with my friend’s work colleagues and we were going for creole/cajun cuisine. It wasn’t nearby so my friend had to drive us. We were following the other car but we lost them on the I-635 (or was it I-365?) and worse, they told us to take the wrong exit. We found it eventually and met them by the entrance of Papadeux. It was a good thing that they had booked us a table otherwise, we would have waited long.
The waiter took our individual orders for the main entree but we ordered deep fried alligator for starters. My dinner-mates religiously follow the tradition of no meat on Fridays during the lent, so we briefly debated if alligator is meat or not. What do you think? Well, they ate it anyway. For my main, I had tuna steak on a cedar plank with buttered asparagus. Yep! On a plank of wood! It was delicious. For dessert, I shared a chocolate cheesecake, which was so rich that we had to ask for a to-go box.
After dinner, we went to cinema (not after getting lost again!) and saw Robots, which I already talked about in another post.
The next morning was chill out. My friend had to join his colleagues to pick up more of their workmates from the airport in the afternoon and I had arranged to meet up with PinayHekmi! But not before I woke them up when I rang their cellphone. It was so embarassing! Anyway, we agreed to meet up at the Hard Rock Cafe along McKinney Ave at 1PM.
I got there but did not go in because I thought we were going to grab a bite someplace else but she already had a table so we just ordered. She ordered a sandwich and I ordered a Cobb salad and it was OVERFLOWING with bacon bits, lettuce, diced tomatoes and all other else! PinayHekmi was laughing and reminded me that I was in America and worse, in Texas!!! Where everything else is B I G G E R. Of course, I didn’t finish my salad. We went to Starbucks afterwards. It was so nice finally meeting a blogger friend! She told me how her family came to Canada first and then moved to America. Also gave me the skinny on how she and her hubby met … and of course, about how excited they are about their new house. On my part, I told her my previous travel experiences, my heartaches (she already knew some of them through this blog!) and my work. It was really, really enjoyable! I hope we could meet again, sometime, somewhere.
I returned to the flat to prepare for the taan-daan-daan! … (more drum rolls) … MAROON 5 concert! We got there early at around 6:30PM (concert isn’t till 8PM) so decided to eat first and found a Burger King. When we got back to the Nokia Theatre, the queue had already gone round the back. Thank goodness for assigned seats! We settled down when we got to our seats and The Donnas – a girly rock band – came out for the front act. They sounded good but there wasn’t anything special (for me, at least) about their songs and timbre of the vocalist’s voice. I lost count of the number of songs that they performed because I felt that they were on stage for a loooong time. When the lead singer said that they were down to the last 2 songs, there were more people applauding! Because Maroon 5 was coming on stage soon……what were you thinking? And the girlies were gone. The lights went on and when they went out again, it was time……
