I’m off tomorrow for my holidays in Mexico.
Will surely be sharing photos and stories when I return!
Before I continue, I deeply apologise for leaving you all hanging. I needed to catch my train to Cardiff that was why I had to cut the reminiscing short. Anyway, here is the rest of the walk down memory lane…
My head was spinning too much with his confession so I suggested a walk. Maybe it was just the wine. But it wasn’t — he really meant what he said. I know I was probably been too naive but it really felt sincere. Kisses don’t lie, at least his didn’t.
So after a short 2-block walk, we found ourselves back at our hotel. And his room was on the lower floor whilst mine was on the 5th…easier to get to his than mine’s…
… … … …
The next day, we checked out of the hotel and grabbed breakfast at some cafe. We then went to the British Museum for a Titian exhibit, one which he was particularly keen on seeing. Walking hand-in-hand, we checked his works.
Afterwards, we walked to the embankment to sit down on one bench and just watched the Thames. There were no words. He just held me in his arms and it felt like the safest place in the world for me. Then it was back to reality. He had to go. I asked him if he wanted to see me again and he replied, “Yes.”
I was filled with hope. So full of it that I stayed sitting down while he walked along the path towards the bridge. Before he disappeared from my sight, he turned around and blew me a kiss. But even before the following week finished, my cloud 9 crashed and burnt me. It was all over even before it could really begin. The other woman found out, unkind words were spoken, and then we said our goodbyes. He said, “If only I met you two years ago.”
Well, three years on…he is now married. It stung. But I’ll get over it. I finally got my closure.
Talk about the past coming back to haunt me. But this time with a sting.
I was bored at work around 30 minutes before home time. I finished and managed to meet all the deadlines for the day/week so I spent the last half hour surfing the net. More particularly Google-ing the names of people I know. Not just any names, names of people I went out with in the past — all the flings and almost-serious relationships. I’m pretty sure that some of you have done it as well.
So I put in his name. He has a pretty common name so there were more than 100 items on the search results. None of the ones on top of the list actually referred to him, him. They bear the same name but as I said, his name is common so the first 6 pages of the results really was not him at all.
After about 9 more pages, there it was, a photographer’s website with photos of his wedding!
I felt like someone reached into my chest and pinched my heart. Yes, it had been a long time ago — way back in 2001. How did it end? He needed time to sort his head out. See, he came to me without properly ending it with another woman. It was unfair for me and for her as well, and I couldn’t agree more, so WE had to end.

Me and N have booked our holidays to Mexico for quite some time now and we are really raring to go. Hurricane Emily had instilled quite a concern for us as the areas badly hurt was the area where we are headed to precisely. We kept on top of weather reports around the area and asked Expedia (where we booked our holidays) for the situation there and we were told that the worst has passed and we have nothing to worry about.
Not until I checked the hotel’s website:
Aventura Spa Palace and Xpu-Ha Palace, which are located in the Riviera Maya region of Mexico, were less fortunate, suffering significant damages. Both resorts are currently closed. The north section of Aventura Spa Palace is slated to reopen on September 30th , while Xpu-Ha Palace is scheduled to reopen on October 31st . All guests staying at these resorts during the time of the storm were evacuated safely to Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort and there were no reported injuries.
Say what? That is the hotel where we are booked, Aventura Spa Palace, and it is CLOSED!
