Mind still busy that I can’t think of a proper title to this one

Coming into the office at 7am, switched on my laptop, logged into the network and checked my emails. There it was, an email from the CEO in Asia telling me to fly to Jakarta 1 week earlier than expected. Reason? We are doing a demonstration of the new modules to one of our existing clients there. Since it is expected that they will, no doubt, be asking for specific technical questions, she thought it best I’d be present.

So now, instead of having 2 weeks to prepare and squeeze all other things for other regions, I’m left with one. On my still to-do:

  1. Finish a bid response for Australia
  2. Finish a bid response for USA
  3. Complete the installation of (yet another!) module in our central demo server
  4. Conduct a demo over the internet for a client in Eastern Europe
  5. Finalise agenda of the workshop for our partner in Indonesia
  6. Prepare for the demo for our existing client in Indonesia

Anyone wishing to give helping hand?

Actually, the stress I am feeling is due to another reason, which I won’t talk about right now as things are still unclear. It will affect me big time in terms of my current work…so, I’d rather keep everything hush-hush at the moment. I don’t know yet if it is good or bad.

So with this new travel arrangements, I will not be able to re-take the driving test – unless my driving instructor is able to pull some strings and I could get a test date next week! Even so, I still have back-to-back meetings from Monday till Wednesday. The annoying bit, though, of not having the chance to re-take the driving test ASAP is that I would need to re-take the theory test again as my current certificate expires on the 13th of November.

By the way, speaking of Australia…I was in (what do you know, another!) an online meeting with one of our clients in Australia this morning (hence the 7am punch-in) and I had a major difficulty understanding what they were trying to say! I do find the Aussie accent sounds better in blokes than in ladies. Anyway, my ears were straining for the entire hour but I managed.

Hear ye!
* * Clocks go back an hour this Sunday, 30th of October, here in the UK (I think for most of Europe, too!) * *

We are 1 today!

PANATANG MAKABAYAN
Iniibig ko ang Pilipinas
Ito ang aking lupang sinilangan
Ito ang tahanan ng aking lahi
Ako’y kanyang kinukupkop at tinutulungan
Upang maging malakas, maligaya at kapaki-pakinabang…

PINOYexpats is a year old!
What a better way to celebrate the first year by paying tribute to our origins … the land that bore us … okay, okay, I don’t mean bore as in  … pun was unintentional … I mean the land that welcomed us when we came out of our mother’s womb. We look back to where we came from as that explains (a lot!) where we are right now and where we should be headed.

Ang di lumingon sa pinanggalingan, di makakarating sa paroroonan…

Click on “our heart” … sit back … and enjoy!

Happy Anniversary, PINOYexpats!

Failed, again!

6 minor faults, 3 serious faults.

Yes, big improvement from the last time I took the test but it still wasn’t enough.

I really thought I’d get it this time. Hoo-hah…

Thing is, my theory certificate expires on the 13th of November. This means that if I don’t pass my practical driving test before this date, I have to re-take the theory test! Aaaagghh! My driving instructor offered to get another test date for me in lieu of a cancellation. So, hopefully, after 10 days, I will be able to take the test again and pass.

Easily bored

Check out my new template! I got bored of the Dancing Woman template … maybe it was due to the colour blue. Hmm…

Anyway, this nip & tuck procedure was brought about by calming my nerves for my driving test this afternoon. I really want to pass it this time. Last Friday, I missed the last bus from the estate where I work, and had to walk all the way out to catch another bus home. I rang for a taxi but no one seemed to be available at the time. So…I will really, really do my best this afternoon.

Trying to fight it

A theatre class instructor once said,

The loneliest time of the week is Sunday at 7pm.

That insight never left my mind as I lived and re-lived that feeling for almost 10 years now. Not that I’m saying that all my Sundays had been lonely. It was more of a case of me not having to share that moment in time, snuggled-up to a special someone or cosied up over mugs of hot chocolate with a friend.

The past few weeks had been different, however. I quickly fell into the habit … surprisingly for someone who hasn’t done it for a long time … of being within a 3-foot radius of someone who I’ve grown deeply attached to. Everything felt nice, felt quite right.

But nothing is definite in this world. The earth itself moves inside and out, so everything on it is bound to as well.

Next thing you know, lonely Sundays will be back again.

How can I fight it?

Which to choose

With my upcoming trip to Indonesia, I decided to swing by Manila for a week. My company, as you may have read in my ranting, is getting me a flight via Singapore. So, I have 3 choices for my Manila sidetrip:

Airline Fare Price Pros Cons
Jetstar Asia S$372 (£124) cheap! no-frills airline, haven’t tried before, no frequent flyer miles (FFM)
Philippine Airlines S$469 (£156) have flown before… …but in business class, haven’t tried fiesta class (this is for international flights), no FFM
Singapore Airlines S$589 (£196) one of the best airlines, have flown with before, FFM most expensive among options

Actually, there is one other airline — Tiger Airways — but they fly to Clark, which is just too far for me.

So, which one should I go for? Any tips for me?
