Gutted and heartbroken

That’s it for me with the World Cup!

Spain is out. Yes, mi querida Espana has packed their bags and gone home.

I really thought and hoped that they would win. They started strong (even without Raul) and managed to stay on top of their group. It was 1-1 down to the last minutes and then a goal by Vieria followed by the final nail in the coffin by Zidane to finish off at 3-1 in favour of France.

Being my first adoptive country, I was rooting for them to win. Yes, I now live in England and P’s half-Swedish, but Spain was really the team I was hoping to bring home the golden ball. If you look through my wardrobe, the only football jersey you will find is that of the Spanish team (and of Barcelona F.C.!).

The team have so much talent and, of course, they are finally getting the best guidance from Luis Aragones. My first taste of the matadores was back in 1998, when the World Cup was held in France. That time, they really had a poor showing, exiting the first round. And then, they improved a bit during the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan. Of course, who could forget that match against Korea.

This year, they were good … but it wasn’t enough.

To the seleccion Espanola, I am still proud of you and I know that your time will come soon. Here’s to Euro 2008!

The damning of an ex

It has been almost 10 years now yet his accusations against me rings in my ear everytime. See, he broke up with me because he felt I didn’t give him room to breathe. That he felt like the goose who laid golden eggs and I was the farmer … I kept on asking and taking from him. Because of that, it has been very difficult for me to ask a favour from anyone — family and friends … either to meet up for a coffee (’cause I got nothing to do and would like some company) or to ask help in packing and moving.

I always feel that I am asking too much. And worse, when I do, and things sort of tend to go a bit askew, guilt beguiles me. That if it hadn’t been for my asking, things would have gone better.

Screwed up. That’s me.

I feel that it is creating a gap in my relationship now with P. If I hadn’t come into the picture, he would have completed his final project. But since I am in his life and we tend to spend the weekends together (as that is the only time I have unless I do take some real time off), he obviously had to set some things aside just to give his attention to me whenever I am around. One friend said that I’m too hard on myself. I can’t help it especially when I could see the disappointment and frustration in his eyes when he is either cramming or when he failed in one of his projects.

It is the same even with my friends. During the time when I was really, really down, I couldn’t even pick up the phone so I could unload my sorrows and just let it all out. I feel that I would be asking a huge favour when I do tell them my heartaches and frustrations.

I don’t want to be the farmer … but then again, I wouldn’t be if I had no goose, right?

Damn him.

Eurovision postscript

Read in one paper this week that the Geneva-based European Broadcasting Union has decided to sell rights to stage an American version of Eurovision. NBC has been wanting to have a program that would compete with Fox’s American Idol.

States will compete against each other choosing the style of music which best reflects their musical heritage – so viewers can expect country from Tennessee and soul from Georgia.

Now, this is something to look forward to.

Good luck, America!!!

Sports-filled

It’s a mega sports fest this weekend here in Europe…

…World Cup
Of course, the biggest show of all time, the World Cup kicks off today with a match between Germany and Croatia Costa Rica. Then tomorrow, England begins their quest against Paraguay. Will Rooney play?

…Roland Garros
Semi-final today of the men’s singles of the French Open. Top notch! Federer already won against Naldbandian and as I am writing this, Nadal is up against Ljubicic, 2-1 on the first set. The finals on Sunday will be amazing.

…Silverstone
The F1 continues at the Silverstone hoping to forget the Schumacher event in Monaco two weeks’ ago. Britain is, of course, rallying behind Jenson Button (sigh…) but he has forewarned the British public for a no-podium finish. Aaaww, c’mon Jenson…you’ll always be in pole position for me!

The weather will be seemingly cooperative, too, as Britain is set out for a scorcher this weekend. Great time to be out and about but with all these sports events, maybe a portable TV isn’t all that bad.

Happy weekend to you all!
