Who’s grumpier?

BBC’s Breakfast show, the morning dailies and online news feeds have all picked up on the recently released survey saying that women are grumpier in the morning and stay grumpy longer than men. According to the report:

24% of men said they never woke up grumpy, as opposed to only 14% of women.
Only 9% of women sleep well every night, compared to 15% of men.

This was mostly due to the quality of sleep that women get — partner’s snoring and chores before going to work were among those mentioned as culprits.

This is quite interesting because I have always declared that P is grumpier than me when he wakes up. He did not deny that because he had read somewhere that men sleep better alone than with their partners, and obviously, women sleep better when lying next to their partner. Whilst P’s claims do make sense to me, I cannot confirm where he heard or read that. In fact, it somehow contradicts this new study, which, on the other hand, I kind of agree to a degree somewhat.

P snores and it does bother me especially when he nods off before me. I sort of developed this sensitivity to snoring from a past relationship. So, if the new claim is to be proved true, I should be grumpier in the mornings. But that is definitely not the case. It is a mission, first and foremost to get P out of bed. I must have something to bribe him with — like breakfast (what were you guys thinking?) — to get him off Dreamland. Still, he ends up grumbling, mumbling, tossing and turning when he wakes up. And the fact that he sleeps longer hours than I do, he shouldn’t be at all Scrooge-like in the mornings. But he is.

As for me, I am grumpiest before going to bed, right at the beginnings of Zzzzz and P knows that, too!

Now, if I was that dog on the left, I’d be right grumpy!
