If that line isn’t familiar to you then I suggest you head to the cinema right now. Yes, that is THE line from “The Devil Wears Prada.” A film touted to be a tribute to Vogue’s Anna Wintour, it does give one a view of the glamorous life in fashion albeit an assistant (aka, slave!). Well, with an unlimited access to all the designer goodies before they even hit the shops, who wouldn’t? As Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep’s character) herself said, “Who wouldn’t want to live like us?” There were more great lines in the film especially from Nigel (Stanley Tucci’s character).
The film was a fashion runway all throughout. An off-white coat (see photo below – taken from www.ctv.ca)and a shirt-jumper top combination caught my eye. I want! I want! Disappointingly though, there were very limited exposure on shoes. I mean, hey, the poster is with a red stilletto right? (Poster taken from Orpheum.)

It was the irony at the end that really did it for me. Andy (or Andrea, Anne Hathaway’s character) realised that the world of fashion — with all the stepping over people, not literally, of course! — was not her. But of course, that doesn’t mean she can’t keep the couture! I won’t say more in case anyone out there hasn’t seen it yet.
The film was based on a book with the same title by Lauren Weisberger. To be honest, I did not know that when I went to see it on cinema. It might have been better that way because I’ve had not-so-good experiences in books-cum-screenplays. To name an example, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” of the Narnia series.
Anyway, I am pretty sure that everyone will enjoy seeing this film. It might be a chick flick but it will be one of those that blokes will want to see. P wanted to, but I took a girl friend along. I thought that he wouldn’t like it (being a chick flick) because he was giving all the sighs and the signs of it (being a chick flick). But when I agreed with a girl mate, he said, “Oh, I really wanted to see that!” Well, tough. He’d have to wait for it in DVD.
My rating: *****
Buying the DVD: Most definitely! (for P, at least)

Run to the bookstore and get a copy of the book! I read the book first (very funny, witty read) and just watched the movie. The movie was bleh for me – they really dumbed it down (you’ll know what I mean after reading the book). Agree that the fashion in the movie was fun to see, but I was disappointed that they had to make the movie too simplified after such a great book. So go read the book
.
thanks for the insight, jmoy.
