No win

Last 16-17th of September was the Thames Festival 2006. It is one of London’s free and outdoor festival with installations and activities lined up along the River Thames between Westminster Bridge and the Tower Bridge. Every year, there is also a photo competition where non-pro photographers can enter. This year, I put in 3 entries for 2 categories: Night Carnival and Street Installations. Several prizes are at stake including 2 tickets to Japan and a digital camera set. After much delay, I received notification today that my entries did not win, not even as honourable mention. Oh well, better luck next time for me!

Akismet and me

I’ve always thought that the Akismet plug-in from WordPress is fantastic. It saved me a lot of time marking the unnecessary and unsolicited comments as spam and then delete them. However, I recently noticed that my comments on other WordPress blogs have not been published and true enough, PinayHekmi did confirm that my last comment on her blog was trapped by Akismet.

So, I asked for some advise from the support team of Akismet. Here are our recent email exchanges:

Hi. I have installed Akismet on my WordPress blog and I think it is simply marvelous. However, I recently made a comment on my own blog without me logged in the admin panel. My comment on the post did not appear instantly and when I checked it on the admin panel, after logging in this time, Akismet has listed it as spam! This could probably explain why my comments on other WordPress blogs have not appeared. Could you please give some advice? I do not want my own blog to consider my own comments as spam.

First reply I received from Mark at wordpress.com last 20 Nov:

Hi,
I can sort this :) Could I ask you to make a comment on the post at http://podz.wordpress.com please? I fully expect Akismet to catch it but then I will know why. I will then remove the reason and ask you to comment there again so we both know it’s all good. Is that okay?

So I went to the prescribed blog to leave a comment. It has not appeared.

Hi,
Your comment went straight to the blog so Akismet did not see a problem.
If this happens again feel free to use that blog again?

NO! It did not appear on the blog. Even to date. Here is my proof. No comment from ladycharlie there.

P.S. Tin (of Marikit), if you are reading this, I tried leaving my greetings for the coming of baby Amelie but as you see, I am having with WordPress comments at the moment so I’ll leave my congratulations to you and Ron here at my blog instead!

Dublin

Hello from the land of Guinness! Yes, I’m here for the weekend to visit a friend. And coming here was a bit of a rush since leaving my flat. I almost didn’t make the flight. But bless my driver, he really did his best in getting me to Gatwick on time. Actually, the drama isn’t over yet because, as usual, BA has lost my luggage!

But I won’t let these get to me. It is my first time here so I am going to make the most out of it! Same thought goes to all of you… happy weekend!

New project

I’ve just created a new blog called I Need A Visa over at Blogger.

The objective of this blog is to share stories and tips on applying for a visa for anyone to anywhere in the world. I had been brewing this idea for some time now especially after a lot of people had been seeking help on the old PINOYexpats Forum. Anyone can share their experiences by sending an email to visastoryATgooglemailDOTcom. But I was hoping to establish a network of writers/bloggers who is willing to help others to contribute. So, if anyone is interested, please email me ladycharlieATgmailDOTcom.

Right-ey-o… I’m off to Dublin today! Ta……………

Time to go a shopping!

With the Christmas looming, I have received several invites for parties already, 2 being black tie events (BTE). Well, I’ve been watching out on my spending the past few months so I decided to raid the other, more quiet corner of my wardrobe to see what I could wear for these 2 formal dos. Besides, I’ve got a number of party dresses that I haven’t worn yet.

To my horror, those that I’ve been counting on do not fit me anymore. *sobs* Either I really could not get into the dress or the zip won’t go all the way up. *more sobs* I did find one sort of a 60s retro print A-line dress which I decided I’d wear for the company party. As for the other BTE, I might need to trod to the shops (dismay, dismay…) and get a new dress. I’ve decided not to spend more than £100, the lower end, the better!

Apart from the anticipation of going through endless clothes racks, I’ve also checked out the internet for some ideas of what’s in season. Handbag was my first stop, which gave me lots of ideas. From there, I visited Wallis, Monsoon, Principles, Ghost and Kew. Below are some eye catchers.

Which one would you go for?
