Move into the block

Check out my room over at Block Savvy.

This is the most recent addition to thos social networking sites like Friendster, MySpace and Multiply. With Block Savvy, however, every “resident” is given Savvy Dollars for each activity done on site starting with 5,000 upon moving in. You can then use these dollars to buy a room and items that you could put in it. This is probably the biggest differentiator for this site.

Existing social networking sites either neglect eCommerce, viewing it as something distinct from other forms of social communication, or employ the same outdated eCommerce practices that popped the dot.com bubble.

BlockSavvy is the only social networking site that recognizes eCommerce is an essential aspect of social life. Culture and style are intimately connected to branded products, from the clothes we wear to the music we listen to. Savvy consumers don’t just follow the latest lifestyle trends – they define the cutting edge. BlockSavvy is a place for these trendsetters to show off their swagger, make contact with other connoisseurs of urban culture, and discover the latest offerings from the brands and designers they’re looking for. And while most sites are content to establish one-dimensional relationships with companies that revolve around traditional advertising devices – banner ads, pop up windows, page sponsorships, and promotional emails – BlockSavvy has redefined the relationship between companies and their target markets. Our unique, 3-dimensional graphic interface allows us to create an online environment that maximizes opportunities for self-expression, and in the process creates unlimited opportunities for creative advertisement and innovative approaches to customer relations. BlockSavvy opens the door on a new world of eCommerce possibilities. (Taken from the About pages of the site.)

In this sense, it kinda like the SIMS game although I really haven’t played that.

Moving in is by invitation only but you could receive one by providing an email address on the site. You will then receive your “key” on the email sent to the address you provided. Once there, select your neighbourhood, purchase your room and start earning Savvy Dollars. When you’ve earned enough, you can use these to purchase items, sample exclusive online content, etc.

Given that Friendster is supposedly full, I suppose it’s time to find a new home.
