Have you ever wondered who said that the 7 wonders of the world should be the 7 wonders of the world? Do you even know what the 7 wonders of the world are? C’mon, Jeopardy time.
Okay, okay, I’ll let you off this time. The 7 wonders of the world are:
Great Pyramid of Giza
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Status of Zeus at Olympia
Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus
Colossus of Rhodes
Lighthouse of Alexandria
Now, these 7 wonders are also referred to as the 7 wonders of the ancient world. There are also the 7 wonders of the Medieval World, Natural World and still another 7 for the Modern World.
It has been a great wish list of travel destinations to many people including myself. Among these lists, I could say that:
1. I haven’t seen any of the 7 wonders of the ancient world.
2. Only been to Stonehenge, among those in the wonders of the medieval world.
3. For the natural wonders, I have been to the Grand Canyons.
4. Among the modern wonders, I’m ticking the boxes beside the Empire State and the Channel Tunnel.

4 out of 28… that’s baaaaad. Well, among the 7 wonders of the ancient world, only the pyramids in Giza remains so, that improves my ratio (4 out of 22).
So, here’s a better idea, why don’t I just tell them what I think the 7 wonders of the world are and, of course, I’d pick those places that I seen and been! Cheeky, isn’t it?
Well, not quite so. There are people who are asking the likes of you and me to vote for the new 7 wonders of the world. It’s the people’s choice this time. Everyone can put in their votes among those that have been shortlisted and nominated. You and me have until just before 07.07.07 (that’s 7th of July 2007) to vote. The final 7 will be officially presented in Lisbon with some extravaganza! As of the 15th of March, the top 7 are (in alphabetical order):
Chichen Itza
Colosseum
Great Wall
Machu Picchu
Petra
Pyramids of Giza
Taj Mahal
The other 14 nominated are: Acropolis, Hagia Sophia, Kremlin, Colosseum, Neuschwanstein Castle, Eiffel Tower, Stonehenge, Alhambra, Great Wall, Kiyomizu Temple, Sydney Opera House, Angkor Wat, Taj Mahal, Timbuktu, Petra, Pyramids of Giza, Statue of Christ Redeemer, Easter Island Statues, Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza and Statue of Liberty.
Yes! I’ve been to Chichen Itza…

Among those who are closely following this top 7, I’ve been to 3: Alhambra, Eiffel Tower and Stonehenge. It is only the Statue of Liberty that I’ve seen from the 7 at the bottom.
WHAT ARE YOUR 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD? Give your vote now!
Borrowing from a certain Thalia Simeonidou from Greece:
