It is one of those rare occasions when the sun sets in perfect alignment with the street grid of Manhattan. This phenomenon has been referred to as Manhattan Solstice, Manhattanhenge or simply Manhattan Sunset. It was first featured in 2002 by Neil DeGrasse Tyson with a special write-up on the Natural History magazine — City of Stars. Manhattanhenge usually falls on the 28th of May and 12th or 13th of July every year.
Best views? As far east in Manhattan along 12th, 23rd, 34th and 42nd streets.
As I am so interested in these things, I checked in Flickr for other photos and as luck would have it, there are tons!
