Such a disappointment

Well, everyone must know by now that this weekend has been a big disappointment to British sports fans. Saturday night, of course, is the heart-breaking loss of the England rugby team to South Africa. And this afternoon, Formula 1 wonder boy, Lewis Hamilton saw his dream of becoming a rookie world champion fly away.

Personally, I wasn’t all too gutted with this result because I have been a straightforward Ferrari fan when it comes to Grand Prix racing. I did want Felipe Massa to win but seeing that his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen, had a shot with the Driver’s Championship, then it wasn’t all that bad. I believe that the start of the race was the key factor in the Ferrari wins. Massa was on pole position with Hamilton behind and then Raikkonen. When the green lights went, Massa moved to the left covering Hamilton giving way to his teammate. This open also gave the opportunity to Fernando Alonso to move alongside his McLaren co-driver but Lewis’ competitive spirit took the better out of him, which really didn’t work out well to his advantage.

C’est la vie.

The thing is, Lewis Hamilton has nothing to prove. Anymore. He’s already made everyone aware that he’s a force to reckon with given that he’s achieved so much in his maiden year. It is a certainty, and most experts agree, that one day, he will become world champion. And as his own father said, if not next year, then the year after that or the year after that!

Cheer up, Lewis! The entire British nation is certainly behind you all the way.

For now, big kudos to Kimi Raikkonen. He truly deserved this championship.

Proud of the lads

I’m gutted that England did not win the Rugby World Cup.

It would have been a real delight if the boys won as it would have been momentous. No country has ever defended the cup. And much to the country’s dismay, Jonny and the lads’ effort were not just good enough.

But the entire country is proud of these men. It was such a struggle to land a place in the finals, especially after the appalling matches at the start of the tournament. I mean, even the newly crowned champions creamed us for 36-nil! Yet, they fought back. Fought hard. The win against France was tremendous! And it certainly boosted everyone’s hopes. The entire nation was behind them.

Eventhough it was not to happen, I’m pretty sure that every man, woman and children is proud to wear the white and red shirt with the English rose.

We’ll try again in 4 years!

Facebook over Friendster

I have recently informed my friends over at Friendster that I will be deleting my account there at the end of this month. This is simply because I have decided that I like Facebook works better for me. I asked everyone in my Friendster list to give me their email addresses so I could stay in touch with them. Would I use it to send them an invitation to join Facebook? Possibly. Most likely.

So, why did I choose Facebook over Friendster?

Simple. The applications.

I love the fact that you can poke your friends or even strangers. I got poked once by someone who I attacked over on Pirates! You can send them a virtual booze like butter beer or moonshine and a tiki revenge. You can also play games like poker and the exciting Scrabulous, where Kat always beats me!

These apps make the networking more interactive. You do more than just share your photos and leave messages.

And thus, I will fade away from Friendster. I haven’t had the time to login there lately anyway.

Our home, our planet

Today is BLOG ACTION DAY. The primary objective of today’s event is to have thousands of bloggers discuss about one thing — the environment.

Before you dismiss this post, may I just remind you that this planet is your home, too. Yours and mine. We only have one… at least for the moment. But even if our great space explorers manage to discover a new place that we, humans, could inhabit, it doesn’t mean that we can now trash this one.

I know that there has been so much hype on the environment but I personally think it isn’t enough. It is about time we should sit in the sidelines and just watch and listen. We need action now. All of us need to do our bit.

The great plans and strategies that both scientists and governments have laid or are laying out will not work if there is no support and participation from the public. On the other hand, those in power and have the immense collective funds should not be complacent also when individual and community efforts have responded and initiated some activity.

This means that when a household begins sorting their rubbish properly, then the local council should have a system of collecting it accordingly. In turn, the re-cylceable items should be brought to appropriate places where they are re-cycled or disposed of in the correct manner. This could be the responsibility of either the governments or huge corporations.

If you’re an individual, forget about doing the proper thing just because you will be rewarded (i.e. tax cashbacks, etc.) and if you’re the government or running a commercial business, forget about charging extra to provide these services and infrastructure. If we are all committed indeed, then there is no need for money here.

Too utopian? Well, it’s about time that we achieve that, for the environment’s sake. It is not who starts it first. It is all about taking that first step together.

Giro Italia 2: Views from the lake

(Continuing from ‘Arriving in style‘)

As mentioned in the previous related post, the hotel we stayed at is about an hour from the town of Bellagio on the Navigazione (the ferry boat). The ferry cris-crosses along the lake, which makes it a good way to see all the towns in Lake Como. From Moltrasio, the route to Bellagio goes through the towns of Torno, Urio, Faggeto, Pognana, Careno, Brienno, Argegno, Sala C, Isola C, Lezzeno, Campo, Lenno, Tremezzo, Villa Carlota, and Cadenabbia. I will let the photos speak for itself.
