Good news for travellers

Hooray!

Come 7th of January 2008, British Airways is to allow 2 pieces of hand luggage back on board its flights departing or transferring from London Heathrow, London City, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Manchester airports. This is due to the new guidelines being set by the UK Department of Transport:

UK Airports where one bag restrictions will no longer apply from 7 January 2008

The Department for Transport has approved new security arrangements at a number of airports in the UK. This means that at these airports the restriction previously imposed limiting hand baggage to one item per person will no longer apply with effect from 7 January 2008. However, airlines apply their own operational policies governing the number of items of hand baggage which may be taken in to the aircraft cabin.

Before departing we strongly suggest you check with your airline on the cabin baggage arrangements for your particular journey.

Airports where the one bag restriction no longer applies are: Aberdeen, Benbecula, Birmingham, Cambridge, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heathrow, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, London City, Manchester, Newcastle, Plymouth, Prestwick, Southampton, Southend, Stansted, Stornoway, Sumburgh, Wick

Just when I’ve managed to acquire the necessary luggage to carry my laptop within my overnight bag so I only bring one piece of hand luggage. But hey… this is still good news. For once, something good brought to me first by BA. This would make domestic and short-haul trips a whole lot easier. No more checking in of the trolley case when I can carry it on board. Less chances of them having to lose my suitcase.

However, I was told that our new company policy for business travel is to avoid BA at much as possible because apparently, our new CEO had suffered the same fate as me with BA. Oh well… like I said, good news is still good news.
