We love silly

What’s a better way to spend a gloriously sunny Saturday afternoon than watch silly people jump in the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park with their silly flying contraptions? None!

The 2nd Red Bull Flugtag happened yesterday at the Hyde Park, here in London. This event is joined in by fun-loving lunatics who build their ‘aircrafts’ from any materials in the attempt to make it fly across a body of water, which in yesterday’s case, the Serpentine lake, and watched by tens of thousands of equally mad spectators. There is a strict no motor rule, which means that no engine should assist these contraptions. Think of Wile E. Coyote without the aid of Acme.

There were 41 teams — each judged and scored on creativity of their aircraft, pre-flight performance and the distance traversed from jumping off the ledge. There were all sorts from Dr Who (phone booth), to Alice in Wonderland (party table) to a really giant c*ck! Here’s a photo of the team Cape Crusader and the Gotham Geezers as their Bat Mobile fell into the water.

The team that got the biggest applause as their plane glided to 39 metres was The Cullinan Bird. The most creative, for me were the Blonde Bimbos where their aircraft was designed as a handbag and the sides opened to become the wings. Genius! Plus the presenters thought they were men dressed as transvestites when in fact, they were real women with huge fake boobs and blonde wigs.

The overall winner was Team Glad Winners followed by the Flying Aquanauts with their Yellow Submarine and third was the team from Wales, Dragon’s Tale.
