Check out the spots

There is a new network of cityblogs that is guaranteed to make your feet itchy to travel. It is called Spotted By Locals where the writers/authors — the Spotters — are locals handpicked to write about places or spots they frequent in their respective cities. This project was conceived and made into a reality by a Dutch couple, Sanne and Bart van Poll, who are confessed travel addicts themselves.

Ticket exchange

Isn’t it just annoying when tickets have sold out for a concert of your favourite artist? It is amazing how people seem to be in front of the computer all the time the first time tickets go on sale online. It’s like they’re camped in front of their laptops or PCs. I’d hate to think that they do this in their workplace. Anyhow, tickets always seem to run on me.

On the flipside, I also know of those people who have bought (or managed to get) tickets for a completely sold out event yet for some circumstance, they are no longer able to go. You post it everywhere – Facebook, eBay and even on your company or community bulletin board – hoping someone will buy it off you.

Introducing viagogo.co.uk – a site dedicated to providing an online ticket exchange platform for cases mentioned above. At first glance, one might think they are no different from ticket touts but for the sake of this post, I shall give them the benefit of the doubt. Let’s say that they facilitate for the buyers and sellers to find each other and they make their money by providing that platform. Perhaps similar to eBay but completely focused on tickets for concert, theatre and sports events.

So, how does it work?

Me and my tango shoes

Learning Argentine tango is addictive! It should come with a warning! I have several reasons why I started learning and why I am still hooked. Big time. But that is, perhaps, for another post. But I will let you in on one of them — SHOES.

I am a self-confessed shoe addict and I have more than 50 pairs. When I began learning tango, I tried on practically every heeled pair I got but only one was good enough to keep me stable on the dance floor. It was a pair of cream Laura Ashley mary janes. I didn’t bother putting a photo of it because it is well tattered now.

Tango shoes are not widely sold here in the UK. Eventhough there are dance shops that sell dancing shoes, they are quite low heeled compared to the more popular tango shoes these days. For me, tango is a lot more expressive if you dance with at least 3-inch heels! It feels more passionate and sensual. My Laura Ashley pair were of the correct height but like I said, I’ve worn them to bits now. So I decided to search the internet for my very first pair of proper tango shoes.

WordPress talk

I’ve been updating enhancing some of the website that I manage today and quite recently. All of these sites — including this blog — runs on WordPress. Here are some of my observations:

Version 2.5.1
I’ve upgraded 3 sites to version 2.5.1 and so far, the most useful feature for me is the maintenance of the plugins. This new version allows you to automatically install the new version of the plugin without the trouble of having to download it, unzipping (if necessary) and then uploading to your server. Upgrades can be done right on Plugin Management of your Dashboard. Easy!

Another feature I like is the media management, especially with images used in posts. With version 2.5.1, you can upload the image and insert into your posts in varying sizes — thumbnails, medium and full size.

I know that version 2.6 is now on beta 2 so what I’ve said here may elicit some responses like “Yeah, I already know that!” But nonetheless, if you haven’t discovered these features, then my only reply is, “You’re welcome.”

Image Plugin
Finally, finally! I’ve installed the Lightbox 2 plugin, which gives a rather cool popup of an image used in your posts. Click on any of the images below to see what I mean.

Amanda and Brian

Cool, eh? From hereon, all of the images used in my posts will have this plugin.

No age limit

I’ve been learning to dance Argentine tango for more than a year now and I am determined to continue learning. I saw this video clip from Tango Thoughts and thought I’d also post it here and share it with all of you — all 3 of you who read my blog.

Who says tango is only for adults? If I could dance half as good as this little girl, I’ll be over the moon.
