Still reluctant with SP3

Windows has (again!) notified me today of an update via the automatic updates feature. I currently have this on “Notify me but don’t automatically install them” option. This is because of the horror stories that I’ve read from people who have installed the Windows XP Service Pack 3.

SP3 was first released in May 2008. When news of PCs not booting, blue screens, etc. came about after its release and people started upgrading, I thought I’d wait a while. So, I switched off my full automated update. I wanted to save myself the trouble of the problems it might bring.

With the update notification today, I checked several fora on the subject and the nightmare stories are not over yet, which means, I still won’t be installing it on my PC.

How about you? Have you got SP3 running smoothly on your machines now? Did you have any problems during the upgrade process?

Advice, tips and warnings are welcome!

To match Beijing

Yes, the Beijing 2008 Olympics has concluded and like the ceremony that heralded its beginning, the closing show was indeed magnificent. I say, well done, China!

But the question on everyone’s minds is whether London could top that in 2012? Almost everyone who blogged and wrote about the games in Beijing have mentioned it once or twice. I say, however, that the question should be, “Do we want London 2012 to be like Beijing 2008?”

NO.

London and Beijing are 2 very distinct cities. The only thing they share, perhaps, is a very rich history. But London has hosted the games twice now and 2012 will be its third. Of course, a lot has happened since the last time the city has hosted it back in 1948 including Beatlemania during the 50s and 60s. So, the ceremonies will most definitely have some material — worldclass material — to showcase. It may not match the volume, scale and pageantry as the Beijing ones, but it will definitely be something that will be truly London and Britain. But who knows. Just you wait and see.

December concerts

There is always something happening during the month of December, especially in the music world. Artists new and, err, not-so-new always stage a “holidays season” concert. Did you notice how PC that sentence was? Anyway, if you are a big concert goer, then you best be prepared to jump from one to another this December!

Perhaps one of the busiest venues in London for that month is The O2 Arena — the place that is formerly known as the Millenium Dome. It is a great concert venue and it is no wonder that big names have chosen to play there like Prince (I was there!) and the very controversial (as always) Spice Girls.

Here is a list of the artists that are performing at The O2 this December on the run up to Christmas. If any of them interests you and you are already finding it hard to find tickets, then check out viagogo.co.uk — a ticket hub where you can buy or sell tickets for concert, sports, theatre events and more. Or, if you are lucky enough to have purchased tickets already but is unlucky that you know you will be missing it, then you can sell your tickets here, too! Every transaction on viagogo.co.uk is 100% guaranteed to be safe and secure.

If I were

It’s been a while since I visited Maria Amelia’s blog (oldest blogger in Spain). Reading through her most recent posts, I learnt that the oldest blogger in the world, Olive Riley, has passed away last 12 July.

I also saw a post which is a list of “If I were…” (Si yo fuera) and I’ve translated some of it here and provided my own answers.

IF I WERE…
… a season, I’d be autumn — not too cold, not too hot and a lovely smell of crisp leaves
… a month, I’d be April (of course!) — when flowers bloom
… a day of the week, I’d be Thursday — close to the Friday and far enough from Monday
… a planet, I’d be Venus — so I’d be near to the Earth
… a musical instrument, I’d be a harp — the sound of enchantment
… a smell, I’d be coffee — lovely to wake you up

What about you?

High quality look

If you run a business, it is almost given that you should have a web presence. It does not necessarily have to be interactive. You just need a good website to let everyone know that you offer goods or services. Consumers and customers these days hardly use the “yellow pages” book anymore. Instead, they turn to search engines like Google and Yahoo to find who can provide them with what they want.

There are many to establish a website. Of course, the easiest would be to have someone do everything for you — from the domain and site hosting to the design and upkeep. This is best for those who are not tech savvy. There are those who prefer to dabble with some aspects of it whether it is just on the purchase side of things. And, of course, there are those who would want to really do it themselves, right down to creating and building the site from scratch.

April theme for April Journeys

What could be more fitting that having a theme that (almost) shares the same name as your blog?

Cool, isn’t it?

I am still tweaking (and putting content on the header!) so please bear with me. If you do find some peculiarities — especially those who are viewing this on IE — please leave a comment so I’d know! As you know, I’m using Firefox so there might be some areas that I’d overlook. Thanks!
