It is somewhat comforting to read that I am not alone in my luggage troubles when travelling. Our company CEO apparently had the same issues with BA that our new travel policy has been changed to Virgin for transatlantic flights and Star Alliance for the rest. There were news today about London’s new mayor, Boris Johnson, having similar frustrations after arriving back in the UK from his family holidays in Cagliari. According to his own post, he was appalled by the no-service given to the passengers and expressed grave concerns for this level of service when it is London’s turn to host the Olympics in 2012. He said that “we need to sort this chaos now” so we won’t look ridiculous in four years’ time.
I totally agree, Mr Mayor, BUT we welcome visitors into London and the rest of the UK by the hundreds, if not thousands, each day. I don’t think we should wait or use the Olympics in 2012 as the motivation for sorting out this terrible thing. This should be dealt with now! If and when we do, it should really be about improving the quality of service each and every single day of the year. This way, we could attract more visitors.
Building a new airport wouldn’t solve the problem either. Look at Terminal 5 (okay, this is just a terminal and not an airport) — did having new facilities improve anything apart from the “image”? No. Besides, where else would you put the new airport? London is already congested and scarce of space. Perhaps it would benefit if the BAA is really shaken up to its core. Change of people brings in new ideas. Whatever it is, fire must really be lit under their bottoms.
And while we’re talking about massive change, don’t forget to remove those dingy carpets in the terminals, too! Like the management, they stink!!!
