This is good news to those who live in Manila, Philippines.
From January 2009, if you consume less than 21 kWh of electricity per month, then you no longer need to pay for it. Meralco is implementing this ruling issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission. The only amount customer would have to pay is the monthly metering charge of P5.00.
According to the report, this ‘lifeline’ already has structured discounting in place. Consumers can enjoy discounts depending on their monthly usage:
21-50 kWh, 50%
51-70 kWh, 35%
71-100 kWh, 20%
Programmes like this is great not only in the current economic climate but also encourages people to use electricity less for environmental reasons. I wish we had something similar in place here in the UK.
