Whew! That’s one more year gone. And it is around this time when most of us reflect on what went in the year that has gone and what is to happen in the year ahead. For me, I posted 5 things that I wanted done in 2008. I knew the risk of having something written down, recorded, because it exposes me to whether I failed or succeeded in achieving these goals. Unfortunately for me, I failed. I only managed to do 2 out of 5 — I continued learning Argentine tango and I managed to see all Indiana Jones films including the latest release. Rather than dwell on my failures on the other three, I’m going to think positive and simply look back at the highlights of my 2008.
January — Went to see DJ Krush at Koko’s in Camden. First time I’d ever paid to see a famous DJ play live.
February — Last issue of PINOYexpats before the e-zine going on hiatus. But watch out for a comeback in 2009!
March — Banana Republic opens in London! Also went to see Otros Aires (electronic, new tango) at the Clapham Grand. Intensely followed the Six Nations rugby where Wales won to complete a Grand Slam.
April — My birth month and ‘D’ day fell on a Friday so I gathered my friends for a drink or two, which I haven’t done for a while. It was also the first sunny day in London, weather was spring-like.
May — This is the month when Boris Johnson, the current mayor of London, was elected into office. It was my first time to vote ever!
June — Credit crunch was looming but still managed to enjoy some sunshine in the city, which we had lots of. Also managed to get tickets for the Red Bull Flugtag where people build silly flying contraptions without the aid of a motor or engine to fly over the Serpentine at Hyde Park.
July — Euro 2008 was in full swing and England did not qualify so I rooted for Spain, who won! Vamonos!
August — I became part of the Spotted by Locals network of cityblogs writing for London. The rest of the world were glued to the Beijing Olympics.
September — I was officially transferred to a new division at work.
October — Began learning lindy hop (or jive or swing) at my local pub, The Bedford. Also started a new blog – Let’s Go Dancing.
November — Saturday nights was talent show nights with both Strictly Come Dancing and the X Factor on telly. I followed both religiously to the very end but was not entirely happy with the way things went and the eventual winners.
December — Spotted by Locals won the Open Web 2.0 awards for the travel category. Woo-hoo! Visited the A&E after swallowing a small piece of chicken bone. Went to several parties including 4 parties where I danced all night. Chilled down Christmas at Ludlow and back in London for the new year.
For 2009, I do have something to look forward to. Perhaps to most anticipated is the cruise along Northern Europe to St Petersburg in Russia in June/July. This was one of my Christmas presents and really excited about it. As for the rest of the new year, I’ll just have to see and hope for the best.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
