Cruising

What is it about cruising that only people of a certain age go on it? If you think about it, it is cheaper than most holiday package considering that the accommodations include all meals. There is also a variety of destinations even though the ports of call will stay fixed for the duration of the cruise.

Well, I am currently aboard the Black Watch on a Fred Olsen cruise liner to St Petersburg. Our ports of call are: Kalundborg (Denmark), Turku (Finland), St Petersburg (Russia), Tallinn (Estonia), Kemi (Finland), Pitea (Sweden), Stockholm (Sweden) and Wernemunde (Germany). It is 16 days on board this lovely ship and even when the average age of passengers is around the 60s, these people know how to have a good time. It is also quite interesting to hear them to this all over again and again. There is even one couple who sailed 40 days from Singapore to Alaska!

I wish that there are more younger people on board and I don’t mean the crew. I wish people my age — mind you, I am not that young either — would consider going on these cruises and not just them booze cruises. Come to think of it, perhaps it is the cruise liner companies who do not want big groups of younger people as they will convert this supposedly relaxing cruise to a major drinking trip. Oh well.

I will post some photos upon my return. No uploads and downloads are allowed for the computers here on board.

Meantime, we’re sailing off to Turku!!!
