Making sense out of blogging
I’ve had this blog now since 2004 and the main reason was to keep friends and family updated with what has been happening with me and what I’ve been doing (although they never did read this blog, but that’s beside the point). However, I kept very personal matters away from the prying eyes of web lurkers. If I had to put my heart out, I always reserved the right for that post to be accessed by a select few. These select few are now friends who I met through this blog, which I am grateful for. Another thing that this blog has brought me is the opportunity to earn the odd tenner or so for writing review posts.
With social network at the forefront these days, I now have an almost captive audience who can check on what’s been happening with me by following my status updates and tweets. Moreover, my extended family members are also now finding me on Facebook when they never even dropped me a single line of email in their lives. Again, besides the point. Cut the long story short, my first reason of creating this blog is now addressed. And since I am finding myself going online more on Facebook than updating this blog, it is quite time to really think on whether I still need this blog. In all honesty, I have been thinking of that for quite sometime now yet I have not made any decision. Thing is, when I’m out and about, I find things and events of interests when I still instantly think that it would make a good topic for a blog post. But when I get home, I find myself logging into Facebook instead and forget about the idea I thought of earlier.
Is there anyone among my fellow bloggers who are feeling the same way? I’m welcome to all thoughts.
