There is no avoiding all the hoola-baloos since the announcement of the royal engagement and the wedding. It’s been in the news not just here in the UK but also worldwide. Royal wedding means street parties along with the souvenirs and memorabilia. There are reports that over 5000 street parties have been officially given the go-ahead. Big screens are also being planned in various areas up and down the country. And although there are a number of people who couldn’t be bothered at all including some who claim to aim to ruin this event, I’m sure everyone is grateful for the extra bank holiday in 2011.
Even if you’re not in London (or in the UK for that matter), you will not only be able to watch but also share what you are doing on 29 April. This royal wedding is certainly the first to embrace the more popular social media channels:
- The official royal wedding website – providing all details of the wedding
- The event will be broadcasted on The Royal Channel on YouTube – you can also leave a video message to the happy couple there
- Live tweeting shall be provided by @ClarenceHouse – share what you’re doing on Twitter using the #rw2011 hashtag
- View photos on the British Monarchy’s Flickr page – you can tag photos of your celebrations with rw2011
- Leave messages on the British Monarchy’s Facebook page
It does promise to be one hell of a party – for royalists, anti-monarchy or simply nonplussed!
Oh, and about those souvenirs and memorabilia? Well, it won’t be complete if we don’t have them tacky mugs, teacups and plates!
